Entropy / Organic drawings

Interventions with mud / Mix media drawings

These discrete dimensions interventions are integrated – through its size – to the organic environment but differ in form as they are very geometric solids with clean angles in contrast with the spontaneous and organic forms around it all over the place. The project is about to develop a document of the natural process of entropy of the interventions.

I'm interested to think about what is the boundary between the “artificial” and what we considered as “natural”, or whether if in fact one exists. Observe their process of erosion and "naturalization" makes me think about the relevance of understanding the concept and its processes as a cultural construction.

Waves

Wood, Metal, 400 x 45 x 45cm, 2016

The undulation, the flow of waves is a form of motion, to varying degrees, is present everywhere and in everything. My work is a quotation of this in the language of sculpture, using the two basic directions: the horizontal and the vertical. The subject matter of my composition is the undulation of waves in water, while the wood, its material, is carrying associations of strong verticality. The combination of these two antithetical directions manifests in a kind of natural "functionality".

Flower

Wood, Rope, 187 x 112 x 37cm, 2016

Simple shapes always stimulate, in that they inspire contemplation and the pursuit of transcendence, directions which are mostly vertical... such as flowers. In this work, reflecting on the fragility and cyclicality of nature, I have attemped to create an object which features sunlight as its main character.

A Tree, Just Here!

‘Tree’ which is called to be ‘The sign of life' has always played a symbolic aspect in my works, because there is a close relation among 'tree', 'water', 'soil', 'wind', 'existence' and 'human Life' also.

Unfortunately, technology developments and people's life style of these days are aimed to the process of natural destruction. The mentioned process is directing us to a way that we are obliged to search for a healthy environment! 'A Tree, Just Here!' is a shaped destruction of a tree which encourages its viewer 'to seek' and 'to find' the truth.

The foot print is the start point of observing the work which invites the viewers to stand and see 'unity', 'integrity' and 'expression' from a definite point.

We are Seen!

'Magnifier' is describing the 'Microscopic world' which we are unable to see in normal conditions. The arrangement of 'magnifiers' in various parts of nature is in such a way that you can't observe the 'microscopic world'. However, the integrity of the arrangement is based on 'being seen' by hidden eyes around the nature.

Tracing the natural bond

Oak wood, Ø35cm x 250cm

Living in natural surroundings led me to consider the bond between the natural elements of earth, water, air and space. There is an invisible line which links them together and on the other hand there are visible products of the same, such as seeds, fruits, trees and other forms we meet.

Through my sculpture, I tried to represent these sensitive bonds through the shape I found in these surroundings such as seeds or germs, as the sensitive beginning of life, untouchable and pure.

It is a form which is constantly changing and tends to become more by spreading its tendrils and carrying the message of inheritance. It is a form which has the free choice to connect with its parts or to divide.

Trace of Life

A line of tree bark, dead skin exfoliated from branches found in the grounds of the Nature Art House, is assembled to become a line. You see the inner surface of the bark, the side not often visible. One of the fragments in the centre has a smaller line that, if you follow with your finger, causes the bark to resonate with this sound, giving it new energy.

Trace of Water

A series of 'sound drawings'

The underwater sound of the turbulence of the nearby stream, swollen by heavy rain, was recorded. These captured sounds and their energy were then used to leave traces in soil collected in the grounds of the house. These lines resemble rivers cut into micro-landscapes that, in one half of the series have been preserved under glass for inspection and in the other, the traces themselves are all that is left behind when the soil is lost.

I am mostly interested in mundane materials of daily life, non-organic as well as organic, that seemingly hold no significance. I try to remove human value judgments from them, and look for a certain coherent order of nature. In this pursuit, I search for alternative relationships of things that initially seem unrelated to each other in any conventional sense; I inquire what meanings those relationships may reveal - the meanings that reside in the concrete material bodies of things, eroding the boundaries of accustomed meaning.

I combined organic/natural and non-organic/artificial objects in my second residency at YATOO, and I used twigs for the main part of my work. I was mostly interested in the lines created by the twigs, and the expressiveness in their human-likeness. I want to believe that we all came from trees, at least for this project.

Vegetarian Spider One day, I saw a spider on a great mission to build a web that stretched from the gate of the house to the tree in front of the house. The spider web disappeared next day. I decided to build a spider web myself, but for a vegetarian spider that eats trees.

Sits in the middle and knows The title of this work comes from Robert Frost's aphoristic poem "The Secret Sits". The work is simply my visual representation of the mystic poem.

We dance round in a ring and suppose, / But the Secret sits in the middle and knows.

Outgrowth As part of the community event, I made hand prints of the elderly ladies out of clay. Their wrinkled and well-used hands made me think of the old tree in the town that has witnessed all of the town's human affairs for 350 years.

Alejandro Jaime Carbonel |

He has developed an artistic work that investigates permanently the different forms of landscape as a way of looking, and traces of human intervention in territory.

Interested in different ways of perceiving what we mean by nature; i.e. how through the eyes of Landscape, our idea of nature can be transformed. In that sense, he try to develop projects involving the land itself and the visual representation, as both artistic operations and diversity of intermediate points serve as channels for understanding the look that turns the territory as a landscape.

In my works I try to harmonize the combination of organic and geometric forms. The terditional local architecture inspires me, and archaic object formulation. Many times I combined the traditonal honesty, pure joint, woodcarving techniques of fold architecture with natural forms. I try to represent the concept with simlicity, and compact forms truly with good aestetics. On the other hand it is important that the theoretical content harmonizes with the form. I like to work with many materials, especially natural ones like wood, stone, bronze, ceramics, but mostly wood because it is a local traditional material and it is close to the artistic roots.

Masa Paunovic |

Through the past few years my work is based on the problem of the sculptural form, its existence in the exterior, nature and urban surrounding. My guiding idea, as a sculptor, is mass that dominates, very stylized and powerful, based on the shapes from the nature, giving them a new form of sign in the open space. The form that I represent is important on its strong geometrical shape and interesting esthetic composition but in the same time the feeling of freedom, being alive and touchable is her inside message.

Simon Whetham |

Simon has been working as an artist, primarily with sound, since 2005. Over these 11 years his practice has developed through site-specific performance, installation, composition (with many works released on CD), collaboration and workshops, worldwide.

Initially focused on the capture and re-contextualisation of environmental sound, he now investigates the sonic properties of those sounds, found objects and materials, acoustic space and reclaimed audio equipment.

The concept of transduction, the changing of energy from one form to another, is strong in his work. This is explored through use of technology, as well as natural processes and phenomena, such as wind and water energy, to create and transform sound.

I studied media art and visual culture in Canada and the UK. In 2013, I started to make scanned images of discarded organic objects. This project brought me to do my first residency at YATOO in 2015. While I concentrate on the visual and media arts, movement plays an important role in my work. I seek ways to merge the two different artistic genres of visual art and dance in the form of mobile installations.
